WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SHOT?

GOOD BLOOD?
Q: Should I wait?
A: Good blood and good shot placement usually lead to a short wait and a quick recovery. But if the track becomes difficult, stretches beyond 300 yards, you find an empty bed, or there's any sign the deer was bumped, mark last blood, back out, and use the TRAKR app to connect with a qualified tracking team.

LITTLE or NO BLOOD
Q: Do I use a tracker?
A: Yes. Little or no blood is one of the strongest reasons to call a tracker. Many mortally wounded deer leave very little blood, especially with high hits or single-lung hits. If you call a tracker, mark the last blood and stay out of the woods. Disturbing the area can push the deer farther and reduce a tracking dog's chances of success.

RAIN/SNOW COMING
Q: Can a dog still track?
A: Yes. Moisture generally helps a tracking dog by strengthening and preserving scent. While rain, dew, or light snow can make tracking more difficult by washing away blood and sign, a dog relies primarily on scent, not sight. In many cases, added moisture makes the scent trail easier to detect and follow, improving a tracking dog's chances of success.
